The W Bogota Wows!

Immediately upon entering the W Bogota one senses something different, something intangible and definately something more luxurious that sets the hotel apart from other hotels in the city. From the sleek reception and welcome desks bathed in subdued lighting to the golden butterflies which recall Colombia's vast biodiversity and the epic Magic Realism of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, on to the elevators which are reminiscent of Colombia’s mines, it is obvious that Starwood Hotels has taken its mission to create local experiences for its treasured guests very seriously. And with the Bogota property they deliver an aesthete that is at once immersive and transcendent; perhaps it could be said, it is hyper-local.
Arriving at the second floor, the experience gets richer still as one enters the W Lounge, of which one of the main features is the intricately designed ceiling treatment hovering over the bar that looks like ripples of water, evoking the Legend of El Dorado and Lake Guatavita.
The Lounge is further appointed by lush furnishings and accented by an amazing wall covered in graffiti by some of Bogota’s best street artists as selected by Vertigo Graffiti. Here visitors are invited to enjoy top shelf cocktails created by masterful mixologists while moving to the musical creations of some of Bogota’s best DJs.
Also on this floor is the Market Kitchen, conceptualized by world-famous Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten and executed by Culinary Concepts, features some of the chef’s culinary classics and new takes on dishes that utilize the wonderful bounty of Colombia’s fruits and vegetables which are well-suited for the farm-to-table concept executed to perfection by Chef Emiliano Rabía Sottil. In contrast to the Lounge, the dining room offers a lighter and fresher atmosphere suitable for a relaxed business lunch or a romantic dinner for two or a fun night out with a group of friends.
Heading down a dimly lit hallway from the Lounge brings visitors to the Au Room, a new concept in Bogota’s already hot nightclub scene that offers a very exclusive party for intimate gatherings. The W’s acclaimed Whatever/Whenever® service is provided by a team of concierges and the Bogota Insider who is charged with making sure that every guest has the unique experience they are looking for while visiting the city - and to be treated to a few surprises along the way. A true boutique hotel, the W Bogota features 168 guestrooms and suites, each one decorated to reflect the golden myths and legends that Colombia is famous for, and to incorporate accents of the country's rich nature. Most of the furnishings have been made domestically, showcasing the beauty of Colombian materials and craftsmanship. Every room includes the W Bed, sumptuous Bliss® bath amenities, the MixBar™ and a 360° floor to ceiling mirror.
The Extreme WOW Suite™ is accented with the green of Colombian emeralds and Lake Guatavita’s deep blue, immersing guests in the legendary splendor of this mythical land. The Suite can be used for hosting an intimate party or for just relaxing in one of the lounge spaces, a central bar, oversized bathtub or the amazing bed.
True to W style, the hotel includes a new modern gym concept and AWAY Spa®, open to hotel guests and locals, with services including a hydrotherapy pool, massage and facial menu, a juice bar, spa menu, and a compliment of exercise equipment. Clients can escape the stress of ordinary life at the AWAY Spa® with a variety of the sumptuous custom blended Loto del Sur amenities made from plant extracts.
It is apparrent that the international staff members, many of whom are W veterans, are truly passionate about the W Bogota and their enthusiasm comes through when they talk about the design and building of the property. From the General Manager, to the Manager of Food and Beverage, Operations, Marketing, the Lounge and Spa, they have all dedicated extremely long hours to realizing this dream are very excited about being part of Bogota's launch onto the world stage.
“The opening of W Bogota is a milestone in Colombia’s hotel landscape, setting the stage for a redefined luxury experience in one of the world’s most vibrant destinations,” said Paul James, Global Brand Leader, W Hotels, St. Regis and The Luxury Collection, “As emerging economies expand, so does tourism, and W Bogota’s highly anticipated debut is symbolic of the whims and wishes of today’s more global and interconnected modern travelers.”
Colombia is only the third country in Latin America to be home to a W hotel, and if early reception is any indication, this property just might be one of the most successful.
