Excursions

Turistren

The Tren Turístico de la Sabana is a fun way for the family to see several key towns in Bogota’s savannah. The train consists of a steam locomotive that carries fourteen (14) cars with a total capacity of 560 passengers, comfortably seated with reclining chairs.

The Turistren was founded in 1992 to rescue the old trains and takes passengers to the towns of Nemocón, Zipaquirá (with the famed salt cathedral) and Cajicá (a typical savanna village) on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, accompanied by live typical music.

Maloka

A unique interactive science museum where kids and adults can explore the universe, the world of monstrous marine mammals, biodiversity and special exhibits.  Maloka’s 3D Dolby cinema shows films about dinosaurs and the coral reefs.  The Cine Dome brings viewers into the realms of space, deep into the earth and on an animal migration.

Children’s Museum / Museo de los Niños

All visits to the Children’s Museum are guided, typically lasting three hours. One area has been designed especially for children under six years old. The other four areas are suitable for children of all ages. The CLUBHOUSE program is for children between 10 and 18 years old.  Part of the international network, Computer Clubhouse was founded under the auspices of the Media Lab at the University of MIT and the Boston Museum of Science and has been funded by Intel. The purpose is to promote artistic creativity using computer based tools.

Museum of Arts and Traditions / El Museo de Artes y Tradiciones Populares

The entire family will enjoy the exhibitions of crafts created by Colombian indigenous peoples.

The museum was restored by the Colombian Association of Craft Promotion in the year 1976 in the beautiful cloister of the Augustinians, to be the seat of the Museum of Arts and Traditions.

Fans of the Bogota Phiharmonic Orchestra / Club de Fans de la Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá

Created for children between 3 and 13 years old to give them the opportunity to attend concerts and special workshops for free to encourage music appreciation at a young age.

Fundación Jaime Manzur 

The shows at the Foundation encourage affection, tenderness and love. The little theater has 350 backdrops, 60 scenic items such as columns, trees, arches, balconies and windows.

Zoos

Santacruz Zoo was founded by Dr. Gonzalo Chacón Rueda and opened to the public on May 3, 1974. Its mission is "to conserve the endangered species of the Andean region. Investigate and contribute knowledge that will benefit the conservation of wildlife. Educate to foster public awareness of the need to preserve and maintain a balance between man and nature.”

The Zoo is located in the municipality of San Antonio del Tequendama, just 30 minutes from Bogota. It has 136 species of mammals, 144 of birds and 35 of reptiles. It offers workshops and activities for educational institutions, schools and kindergartens.

Visitors can purchase a "passport to the Zoo" which includes round-trip ticket from Bogota and admission to the Zoo Santacruz, this passport is only valid for adults and is available for sale from Monday to Friday.  From there, take a COOPTRANSTEQUENDAMA bus directly to the zoo.

If driving, leave the autopista south of Bogotá and take the road to the College Mesitas, and follow the signs to the zoo where a secure parking lot is available.

Panaca

One of the biggest theme parks in Colombia, and the first to be certified as an Eco Tourist Park, visitors can enjoy interacting with over 2,400 animals, the petting zoo, feeding pigs, milking cows, riding the vast canopy, 20 restaurants and a mill where pure sugar cane is made into panela.

Open 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Friday to Sunday and Holidays, Panaca is located just 40 minutes from Bogota, between the municipalities of Briceño and Zipaquirá.
